Welcome to Grade Three!
I am so excited for this year to begin, and truly look forward to an exciting year of learning ahead! Below is some important information regarding school and classroom routines, important times, and numbers etc.
Our classroom number is Room 9. Your child’s entrance door (unless other circumstances dictate) is at located at the compound. This will also be the door we will dismiss your child from. Teacher supervision is provided outside at 8:25 am. To ensure the safety of your child, please do not drop your child off previous to this time. School begins promptly at 8:40am. We encourage you to drop your child off with the supervisor to keep vehicle traffic flowing. It can get quite congested with traffic before and after school. Please remember to be patient and safe during these times. In the case of inclement weather, your child will be ushered inside at 8:25 am with supervision in their classrooms. Children are expected to be at school at the first bell at 8:40am. After this time, your child is expected to enter through the main school doors, proceed to the office to check in with the secretary as late, and then go immediately to his/her classroom. All students are expected to have a pair of indoor shoes (preferably runners) that are kept at the school. Children also require a backpack that is brought to school daily. Please remember to label these items on the inside.
We will be having morning snack. Please send your child with a small self-contained portable snack for this time. Recess is from 10:15 – 10:30am, lunch is from 12:05am - 12:58pm, and final dismissal is at 3:20pm Monday through Thursday, Friday's dismissal is at 12:50.
The best way to reach me throughout the day is via email. My address is firstname.lastname@example.org . I welcome communication from parents, and will be corresponding with you via email. Alternatively, you can reach me during school hours through the school’s main switchboard at 403-777-6424, and leave a message with our school secretaries or ask to be transferred to my voicemail. Please note however, that I am unable to check my phone messages throughout the day, so for time sensitive requests and information, email is the best choice. For all communication I will do my best to contact you after instructional hours.
Parent Emails: All information will now be sent home via a class email message, I will also post it any information I send home in an email on the classroom blog.
The D2L Shell: Our Shell will be used for current curriculum connections, the work done specifically in our classroom and useful references for you and your child. Access to the Shell is done through your child, and we will learn how to get on and sign in soon. I also highly recommend you visit our school’s website regularly, as important information is updated frequently. We will also be setting up CBE Google Drive accounts to enable us to work on projects from home and school later on in the year.
Throughout the year I will be seeking volunteers to assist with classroom projects, fieldtrips, preparation of supplies, organization, school wide extra-curricular activities, sharing your expertise, and general classroom help. Please watch out for email requests regarding volunteering opportunities. ☺
All volunteers MUST have a Chaparral School Security Clearance or have their current Security Clearance transferred over to Chaparral School BEFORE any participation can happen. This process can take some time, so please contact the main office ASAP if you are interested in volunteering and are unsure of your current clearance expiry date, or whether you do not yet have a Security Clearance, or whether you need to transfer your clearance from another CBE school.
Health and Safety:
As a school, we are conscientious about making our classrooms safe and healthy for all learners. If your child has a severe allergy, please let me know ASAP and I will do all I can to educate the other students and parents in our room to ensure your child’s safety. I also highly encourage your child to make healthy choices for snacks and lunch which will give them the energy he/she needs to make it through the long day! We will be doing a large portion of our health lessons using our snacks and lunches. Thank you in advance for supporting our healthy classrooms. Please also ensure that you send any cutlery. We do not have access to microwaves for heating student lunches. Water bottles are permitted but must be returned home every day so that they can be cleaned properly. For the safety of all of our students, we ask that snacks and lunches are nut free. Please note that I always allow pupils to use the washroom when necessary.
Scholastic Book Orders:
Book orders from Scholastic (Lucky/Arrow) come about once a month. If you wish to participate, please pay by cheque payable to Scholastic Canada. All funds must be sent though the mail so NO CASH please. There is an option to set up an account to pay and order online.
All student absences should be phoned in directly to the main office at 403-777-6424. Please do not solely email me with your child’s absence, the office is the main contact when reporting this information.
I am excited to work with you and your child this year. Please know I am available to you and your child to discuss any questions or concerns you may have, as they may arise throughout the year. It is my intent and goal to make this year a positive and wonderful learning experience for your child, and to address his/her learning needs with personalized care and meticulous attention. Thank you for taking the time to read this information package and returning the email contact information and volunteer forms ASAP.
