Many of you are doing a great job of submitting all assigned work. Some of you may benefit from a quick review of how to submit your work in google classroom. Please watch this video if you are still struggling with submitting your work:
It is fine to do classwork directly on a computer or on paper. If you are submitting work done on paper it is a good idea to use a scanner app. There are many useful scanner apps that make submitting work done on paper quite easy. I use the app Office Lens.
Keep up all the hard work and have a great long weekend!
We will be completing our Light and Optics unit this week. There will be a Section 3 Quiz Next Thursday, May 21st. Make sure you are checking the answer keys that I have posted and are asking questions for clarification when needed.
All aspiring scientists, please read the information below regarding an online science opportunity:
This may be of interest to (but not limited to) those students who were members of the Science Fair Club. The Science Fair Club students have already worked on projects and this would provide them the opportunity to share these projects. I hope that some of you will consider signing up.
Now that we are done Section 2 of our Light and Optics unit there will be a section 2 quiz next Thursday. Please refer to the answer keys that I have posted in Google Classroom or join a Google Meet if you have any questions. Stay safe!
This week we will be finishing up unit 5. We will have a unit quiz next Tuesday. All assigned work for the unit is posted in google classroom.
Good Afternoon Grade 8,
I know this is late notice but I wanted to let everyone know that the Noggin Hoggin Challenge starts TODAY! Time is of the essence. If you want to participate and have a chance at WINNING SOME PRIZES you must register TODAY.
The Noggin Hogginʼ Challenge is ExamBankʼs zany brainchild. It is a multi-day, elimination-style challenge designed for students across Canada.
The mind bending puzzles are developed by educators as a fun way to integrate technology and inquiry-based learning into the daily lives of students. The question style is multidisciplinary, meaning that it integrates different subject areas and skills. Students will essentially be engaged in an online treasure hunt, learning to identify and consult reputable sources to solve a problem.
This is a very fun and exciting challenge that helps to develop student problem-solving skills. Active questions are only viewable to registered players, but as each question expires, the problem and its correct solution will become available to everyone.

Please note that I want to make sure that all of my students are learning in a stress-free environment. Remember that you should be doing about 3 hours of math each week. Also, if you are unable to complete all the assigned work in three hours be sure to let me know and we can make other arrangements.
Hello Parents/Guardians and Students,
Learning online is something new to most of us. At times it can be a little overwhelming receiving emails every time one of your teachers posts something in their Google Classroom. Some notifications are useful while others may be less important. Below you will find a link with instructions to customize your settings to limit the number of emails you are receiving. I hope you find this useful:
Thank you all for your hard work. Please keep in touch.
As a reminder I will be online Monday to Thursday from 10-11 am and 2-3 pm to answer any questions you may have. How to get your questions answered:
Email: 8 am - 5 pm Monday to Friday
Google Classroom: Private messaging 8 am - 5 pm Monday to Friday
Google Meet: 10-11 am and 2-3 pm Monday to Thursday. In order to ask me questions in Google Meet log in using the passcode Tackney. In Google meet we can talk live or direct message with each other.
Please note that I will try to get back to you in a timely manner between Monday 8 am and Friday at 5 pm. I hope to hear from you all over the weeks to come.

I hope that you are all safe and have had a chance to enjoy some time with your family over the past couple of weeks. I sent out an email this morning to all your parents/guardians and am currently waiting for replies. It is important that I know who has access to computers and the internet so that I can plan activities accordingly. If your parents/guardians have not seen the email that I have included below could you please ensure that I get an emailed (firstname.lastname@example.org) response as soon as possible.
In the days to come, we will be using google classroom to facilitate learning. I will provide you with more information on this soon.
Email to Parents/Guardians:
Good morning parents/guardians,
I hope this e-mail finds you well. Thank you for your patience as we have worked through some necessary planning in preparation for resuming structured learning opportunities for your child. I understand there has been plenty of uncertainty about what learning is going to look like moving forward. I can assure you that we are going to work on key learning outcomes at-home within the parameters established by the province and CBE.
To help me understand your family’s access to technology, can you please provide responses to the following three questions:
Does your child have access to a computer, laptop, iPad/tablet, smart phone?
Does your child have access to the Internet?
Is your only option a paper-based education for your child?
Also, please answer the following if applicable:
Is there anything that you or your family need assistance with?
All the best to you and your family in these extraordinary circumstances. I look forward to connecting with you and your child/student with additional details in the near future.
