Welcome back and I hope everyone had a lovely winter break!
We will not have spelling words this week as it is a short week.
Please remember that we only have half a day on Friday Jan. 6.
We are starting to work on beginning, middle and endings of stories. We are talking about the setting and the characters. After you read with your child please ask them what happened in the beginning, middle and end that would be really helpful for when we start writing our own stories.
Poems from the beginning of the year till today have gone home. Please practice reading for extra reading practice.
Students will be encouraged to write more this. As we work towards our writing goals please encourage your child to write at home, short stories or even journal entries. As we start back with spelling they can write little stories with the words and/or sentences. When reviewing the sentences with your child please make sure you talk to them about capitals and periods. Please make sure the spelling words are spelled correctly and if you have the extra time have a discussion around what sounds they hear in the other words and work towards spelling these correctly. Please do not make this a big deal as we want them to enjoy writing and not be worried about spelling all the time.
In math we reviewed our number of the day and students showed various ways to represent their numbers. We will finish up with patterning and measurement and start to work on our basic facts.
We will begin our blueprint designs for our habitats in the next few days. Encourage your child to talk about what they think their animal would need to have a good habitat and quality of life to help refresh their memories!
