We had a great Terry Fox Run... thanks for all of your support. I was really impressed with how all of the kids in Room 14 persevered to the very end of our run time. They had fun, looked out for each others and challenged themselves to do their best even with the rainy weather.
Next week is Orange Shirt Day. At Chaparral we are not so concerned about the need to wear an orange shirt to school as we are about the meaning of the day. Throughout the week our class will be working with ideas from the Circle of Courage. We will be focusing on Belonging and the importance of including everyone in our learning community and appreciating our own uniqueness. We will also learn a little bit about the history of inclusion of others in Alberta.
Next Friday, October 4th is our community walk. We continue to need a few more volunteer parents in order to be able to go on the walking field trip. So far we have Pam K. and Christina B. joining us and we would love to have more.
Today we brought home our library book. We were able to sign out two books. One for our desk and one to take home. We have started to learn about the five finger test to check and see if a book is just right for us. We are using this guideline to help us select chapter books we might want to try to read. If we could not read all of the words but five on a page, we found another book. We are not using this guideline to select picture books and non-fiction books. Our library days are Friday and we would be grateful to your support to help us remember to return our book each week.
It would be great if you could take the time to use some of the comprehension questions to support your child to think and talk about library books and home reading books.
