Students in grades 4-6 were able to make comparisons between two different racquet sports this week, as Coach Kiefer and Coach Lee from Fish Creek Racquet Club joined us at Chaparral School for a day of squash. Students were challenged to make adjustments to their swing technique in order to properly hit the squash ball off the wall and into play. Squash is played in a small enclosed court, so we modified our gymnasium and set up 9 courts for students to continue developing their racquet skills in the game of squash. Information was sent home about Fish Creek Racquet Club and further opportunities for students to get involved in the game of squash outside of school.
Bouncing back to badminton...students were challenged to continue improving their serving skills while building confidence with using the forehand and backhand during rallying situations by themselves and with a partner. Students will soon complete a peer assessment on basic rallying skills and technique.
Swimming lessons continued for our PM Kindergartens and Grade 1 students...sort of. After a slight miscommunication and unfortunate cancellation, swimming lessons have been re-scheduled and will get back on track this week. Swimmers will be heading to the Trico Centre on Tuesday and Thursday and are really looking forward to their next chance to jump in the pool.
