We continued to work on a wide variety of activities. During writing this week I encouraged the students to try and write 3 sentences. We are working on adding detail sentences. For example: My favourite part of the Winter concert was The Big Chill song. I really liked singing and doing the actions for this song. I also continue to encourage students to create sentences that make sense, sound out words as accurately as possible, use the spelling words that are on the word wall, use neat printing, etc. Learning to write is a big job and one that we spend time on every day.
We continued to work on the numbers 1-20 and the different ways that we can represent them. I want them to have a very solid understanding of the numbers 1-20 before we move on.
We have started working and talking about My World: home, school, and community. Essentially students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of how identity and self-esteem are enhanced by their sense of belonging in their world and how active members in a community contribute to the well-being, growth and vitality of their groups and communities.
Hopefully by the end of the week end, all students will have had a chance to log into their new Raz-kids account. Raz-kids is not meant to take the place of home reading, but rather something different that students can participate in perhaps 2-3 times a week or on the week-end. However, next week I will be asking for all the home reading books to be returned by Thursday, December 20 and I am hoping that all students read in Raz-kids over the winter break. We spend about 20 minutes each day in “Read To Self” time and that may be one activity that you might consider having your child do most days during their break.
Pajama Day is Friday, December 21st. Students can wear their pajamas to school that day and bring a stuffed animal as well. This is always a great, fun day!
