Makaya was the Star Student this week. Makaya was very excited to receive her Star certificate and did an excellent job helping with the classroom recycling all week long. Thank you, Makaya!
Our school week was short but we still did a lot of great learning. At centre time, we each chose a planet in our solar system that we would like to learn more about. It was so much fun to use the internet and books to do a mini research project about each planet that we chose. We got to share our learning on Thursday with our grade 6 buddies and they all clapped when we each finished presenting our planet. Some of our students even used their speech device to present and that was really cool.
We also spent some of the week working on assessments for upcoming IPP's. We are getting better at showing what we know and Mrs. Rowntree and Ms. Crawford are very proud of our progress. Some of us are even learning to read short sentences and that is such an awesome skill to have.
We have been enjoying watching parts of the winter Olympics at school and counting all of the medals that Canada has won so far. We had so much fun doing Olympic centres in gym and tried such sports as bobsled, hockey and speed skating. We all cheered each other on and talked about having good sportsmanship.
We are looking forward to warmer weather ahead and going outside for recess. Fresh air and exercise are so important to keep us healthy and learning.
