As you know, we have eggs! Most of our lovely babies have been growing at a steady pace inside the egg, so much so that it is becoming harder to candle as they are getting so big! We continue to learn lots about eggs and chickens over the past week! We have been observing the inside of our eggs in the incubator through candling the eggs as well as pictures of what is happening inside. Each day we read a card that shows us the chicks development and tells us what is happening. Students have been copying the words and pictures into a booklet each morning. Today we also filled in the Egg Diagram page and learned about all the parts of the egg including the yolk, chalaza, albumen, germinal disc, etc. Ask your child what each part of the egg does for the chick!
We have been discussing some other animals that lay eggs, and will be discussing and comparing the different kinds of Oviparous animals.
We are also doing a liquid experiment this week. We are observing and predicting about two jars both filled with water, but one has a lid and the other does not. The students had great predictions including that the water may evaporate, the closed jar could get moldy etc. We will see what happens come Thursday!
